PART 2: THE BOY ASKED FOR A DONUT… THEN THE BUSINESSMAN RECOGNIZED THE BRACELET

PART 1

A tray rattled against the glass counter.

The bakery went silent.

A young boy stood there holding a crying little girl.

Their clothes were torn.

Their faces were dirty.

Several customers stared.

The cashier crossed her arms.

“Do you have money?”

The boy lowered his eyes.

And slowly shook his head.

A few customers looked away.

Others whispered.

The little girl cried harder.

Then the boy carefully removed a silver bracelet from his wrist.

He placed it on the counter.

“Can I trade this?”

The cashier frowned.

But before she could answer—

An elderly businessman standing nearby froze.

His eyes locked onto the bracelet.

His face lost all color.

Because he recognized it instantly.

Only three bracelets like that had ever been made.

And one belonged to a child who disappeared sixteen years ago.

The businessman stepped closer.

His voice trembling.

“Where did you get that?”

The boy hugged the little girl tighter.

And answered:

“My mother told me never to lose it.”

PART 2

The businessman stared at the bracelet.

Unable to breathe.

Then he noticed an engraving inside.

A date.

A name.

And a message.

The same message he had written years ago.

The boy reached into his pocket.

And removed a folded photograph.

The businessman unfolded it.

His hands began shaking.

Because it showed a woman he had spent years searching for.

Then he turned the photo over.

A sentence was written on the back.

“If my son reaches you first, don’t trust the lawyer.”

The businessman looked toward the bakery entrance.

Because a man in an expensive suit had just walked inside.
